2023 Marcel Lapierre Raisins Gaulois
2023 Marcel Lapierre Raisins Gaulois
Size: 750ml
Grape: Gamay
Producer: Domaine Marcel Lapierre, now managed by Mathieu and Camille Lapierre, continuing their father’s legacy.
Region: Beaujolais, France, primarily sourced from young Gamay vines around Morgon, with some additional fruit from nearby vineyards.
In the cellar: Raisins Gaulois is crafted as an approachable, early-drinking wine. The grapes undergo semi-carbonic maceration, a hallmark of the Lapierre style, emphasizing bright fruit and minimal tannins. Fermentation is initiated with native yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, preserving the fresh, vibrant character of the Gamay grape. Minimal sulfur is used at bottling to maintain the wine’s natural expression and purity.
Farming method: Certified organic farming since the 1980s, with biodynamic practices influencing vineyard management. The Lapierre family believes in minimal intervention, cultivating healthy, living soils. Hand-harvesting ensures only the best fruit makes it to the cellar. Yields are kept intentionally low to enhance concentration, typically averaging 45 hl/ha.
Tasting notes: This playful, youthful, and juicy red bursts with aromas of wild strawberries, crushed raspberries, and red currants, alongside subtle herbal notes of thyme and wet stone. On the palate, it’s lively and fresh, with tart red fruit, lots of figgy notes, a hint of pepper, and a soft, silky texture. Its balanced acidity makes it a great pairing for charcuterie, light pastas, or even slightly chilled for a picnic.
