2020 Château des Rontets Clos Varambon Pouilly-Fuissé
Size: 750ml
Grape: From Chardonnay vines which are 350 meters above sea level; Les Rontets is on the top of the hill which closes the valley of Fuissé towards the south
Producer: Husband and wife team Claire Gazeau and Fabio Montrassi (Claire is French, Fabio from Milan; both were architects who met while working in Milan)
Region: Burgundy, France (Pouilly-Fuissé, located in southern Burgundy, close to Mâcon and northern Beaujolais)
In the cellar: After fermentation this is aged in old French oak for 12-18 months.
Farming method: Organic; In 2009, 713 people posed nude for US photographer Spencer Tunick in Claire & Fabio’s vineyards for a Greenpeace rally to bring awareness to climate change.
Tasting notes: A classic white Burgundy with a smooth, rich body layered with notes of beeswax, white flowers, and fresh apricot. The bedrock beneath the vines is composed of hard limestone from the Jurassic period; the intense minerality on the finish is a testament to the richness of the land.
