2017 Antoniolo, Le Castelle Gattinara
2017 Antoniolo, Le Castelle Gattinara
Size: 750ml
Grape: Nebbiolo (locally referred to as the grape Spanna) from the Castello vineyard
Producer: Brother and sister team, Alberto and Lorella Antoniolo
Region: Piedmont, Italy (from the small appellation of Gattinara DOCG)
In the cellar: Aging requirements are the same as those for the Barolo DOCG (three years, and at least two of these years in wood.)
Farming method: Organic; no chemical fertilizers and no products against botrytis are used; natural grasses and weeds are left between the rows of vines. Very low addition of SO2.
Tasting notes: Partly barrique-aged ‘Castelle,’ is a bold and rich Nebbiolo with ripe notes of figs, raspberries, and rose petal aromas. This is an awesome alternative to a Barolo or Barbaresco. If you haven’t tried Gattinara Nebbiolo now is your chance!
