With its bright orange rind and festive name, Red Witch is a favorite among Salem visitors looking for all things witchy and delicious. Red Witch’s conception is credited to a major cheese fan with a dream of the perfect cheese for Fastnacht, Switzerland’s pre-Lent carnival. The cheese needed to pair well with beer, wine, and spirits, and feed the hungry festival goers who would party for days. Our hero cheese fan contacted famed Swiss cheesemaker Christian Oberli, who created the perfect party cheese. He covered the rind in paprika and called it Red Witch (Rote Hexe) as a nod to the elaborate masks and costumes of the festival.
Red Witch is velvety smooth, buttery, meaty, and slightly funky. It pairs with almost any alcohol, and it will keep you strong so you can party all night long!
