2006 Scarpa ‘La Selva’ di Moirano’ Freisa
Who: Silvio Trinchero
What: Freisa
Where: Piedmont, Italy
How: These grapes were harvested by hand before fermentation and aging in stainless steel tanks.
Farming Method: Organic
Fun Fact: Scarpa was founded by Antonio Scarpa in the second half of the 18th century.
Tasting Notes: Beautifully floral with notes of dried strawberries.
2017 Thirsty Owl Dry Riesling, Finger Lakes
Who: Mary Dauber and Jon Cupp
What: Riesling!
Where: New York, United States
How: Stainless steel fermentation
Farming Method: Organic
Fun Fact: Thirsty Owl Winery is on the edge of Cayuga Lake-funnily enough the winery advertises that you can visit the tasting room by boat!
Tasting Notes: Smooth and full-bodied with notes of lemon and petrol.
2015 Vita Vinea Kisi, Kakheti
Who: Dakishvili Family
What: Kisi
Where: Kakheti, Georgia (On the Eastern side of Georgia)
How: These Kisi grapes were aged in barrel and Qvevri.
Farming Method: Organic
Fun Fact: The Dakishvili family has been making wine for almost 100 years.
Tasting Notes: Rockin’ tannins alongside pulsating apricot and ginger notes.
2018 Tevza Winery, Kartli Amber Qvevri Crazy Alive
Who: Goga Tevzadze
What: Chinuri
Where: Kartli, Georgia
How: These wines undergo a spontaneous yeast fermentation in a Qvevri where it ages for 4-6 months.
Farming Method: Natural
Fun Fact: Goga’s winey was founded in 2018!
Tasting Notes: Tangy with notes of plums, grass, and peach.
2018 Tevza Winery, Kartli Red Qvevri Crazy Alive
Who: Goga Tevzadze
What: Shavkapito
Where: Kartli, Georgia
How: These grapes were fermented with a spontaneous yeast fermentation in a Qvevri and is aged for 3-4 weeks.
Farming Method: Natural
Fun Fact: Goga formerly produced brandy for a living.
Tasting Notes: A fun mouthful of tannin with notes of plum, cherries, and earth.
2013 Dirupi Valtellina Superiore
Who: Davide Fasolini and Pierpaolo di Franco
What: Nebbiolo
Where: Lombardy, Italy
How: These grapes are fermented with indigenious yeasts in steel vats and aged in barrel for 18 months.
Farming Method: Natural
Fun Fact: Davide and Pierpaolo first met in elementary school when they played basketball together.
Tasting Notes: Tightly woven tannins and notes of rose petals and wild cherries.
