Mimolette
Mimolette
Many cheeses have their own legends populated by giants, cyclopes, sword fights, the moon, and more! One of our favorites has to do with the round, very firm French Mimolette. The story goes that Napoleon was in a pitched battle against the Prussians when suddenly he ran out of cannonballs! He reached for the next best thing, wheels of Mimolette, loaded the cannons and BOOM, let fly to great effect. While this wasn’t the main reason Napoleon won a battle, it certainly helped Napoleon’s troops live to fight another day. Wait, isn’t this a legend? Heck, Mimolette helped Napoleon win ALL the battles!
While Napoleon successfully used Mimolette as a projectile, we hope you are planning to eat it rather than shoot it out of a cannon because it is delicious. While Mimolette comes in many different ages, ours is around twenty four months old making the texture firm, but with some chew. It tastes of salt, nuts, and butterscotch, which pairs well with a glass of Bourbon for a simple after dinner treat.
