The South African wine industry dates back to the 1600s and has changed dramatically in just the last decade. While co-ops are still very important, there are now over 500 private wineries, and South African winemaking culture has more recently shifted into supporting local co-ops and smaller producers, all while expanding to a broader audience. Some of the soils in this magnificent country are the oldest in the world, and vines are plentiful and producing great wine after great wine.
