Love Wine Party Line-up:

2017 Avinyó Cava Rosé

What: Pinot Noir

Where: Penedès, Spain

How: The Traditional Method with 18 months of aging before disgorgement.

Farming Method: Organic

Fun Fact: In 1957, a member of this Esteve family Joan Esteve Nadal, brought the first tractor to Penedès!

Tasting Notes: Tiny delicate bubbles and minerality driven notes of cherries and raspberries.

2018 Kiona Ice Wine

Who: John Williams and Jim Holmes

What: Chenin Blanc

Where: Washington, United States (specifically in the Southeast part of Washington)

How: These Chenin Blanc were harvested in early November when the grapes were overripe and filled with sugar and absolutely frozen on the vine. They were carefully harvested in stainless steel to preserve the freshness of the fruit and then delicately pressed.

Farming Method: Organic

Fun Fact: The vineyards used to produce this Ice Wine were planted in 1976 and 1983.

Tasting Notes: A lip smacking mixture of acidity and sweetness in a bottle - a pure expression of love with its apricot and apple candied notes.

2018 Idlewild ‘The Flower’ Rosé

Who: Sam Bilbro

What: A blend of Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera

Where: California, United States in Mendocino

How: These grapes were picked with care and given a touch of time on their skins.

Farming Method: Organic

Fun Fact: Sam’s family is full of winemakers; the rest of the Bilbro family are involved with growing another California winery, Marietta Cellars.

Tasting Notes: Scrumptious minerality and a touch of spice. Think dry peach iced tea.

2018 Broc Cellars ‘Love Red’

Who: Chris Brockway

What: A blend of Carignan, Valdiguié, and Syrah

Where: California, United States specifically North Coast

How: The Carignan and Syrah underwent whole cluster fermentation and destemming in a combination of concrete and stainless steel while the Valdiguié went through carbonic maceration in stainless steel. Then the wine was aged for 8 months in a mixture of concrete and neutral French oak.

Farming Method: Organic

Fun Fact: Valdiguié has always had people scratching their heads; this grape was popularized as ‘Napa’s Gamay’ for decades until an ampelographer (a grape identifier) broke the news that this grape was actually Valdiguié/Gros Auxerrois, which is planted in Languedoc, France. After this, Valdiguié plummeted in popularity but definitely give this underdog a shot!

Tasting Notes: Vibrant acidity with puckery tart notes of blackberries and earth.

2018 Broc ‘Love White’

Who: Chris Brockway

What: A blend of Marsanne,Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, and Picpoul

Where: California, United States specifically Madera

How: These different grapes were co-fermented and underwent malolactic fermentation in barrel; the wine was then aged for 8 months.

Farming Method: Organic

Fun Fact: Chris’s interest in wine was sparked when after majoring in philosophy he moved to Seattle and began working in restaurants.

Tasting Notes: Medium-bodied and stony with delicate notes of sunflowers and spice.
