Who: John Williams and Jim Holmes

What: Chenin Blanc

Where: Washington, United States (specifically in the Southeast part of Washington)

2018 Broc Cellars ‘Love Red’

Who: Chris Brockway

What: A blend of Carignan, Valdiguié, and Syrah

Where: California, United States specifically North Coast

How: The Carignan and Syrah underwent whole cluster fermentation and destemming in a combination of concrete and stainless steel while the Valdiguié went through carbonic maceration in stainless steel. Then the wine was aged for 8 months in a mixture of concrete and neutral French oak.

Farming Method: Organic

Fun Fact: Valdiguié has always had people scratching their heads; this grape was popularized as ‘Napa’s Gamay’ for decades until an ampelographer (a grape identifier) broke the news that this grape was actually Valdiguié/Gros Auxerrois, which is planted in Languedoc, France. After this, Valdiguié plummeted in popularity but definitely give this underdog a shot!

Tasting Notes: Vibrant acidity with puckery tart notes of blackberries and earth.
