Californian Cabs w/ Tim from Classic Wines
Join us today as Tim from Classic Wine Imports showcases a trio of showstopping Californian Cabernets! They’re all Napa - rich, dense, showy, and proud of it! Choose Cabernet Sauvignon from three different Napa producers: Chateau Montelena, Hall, and Heitz! See you at 5pm!
2014 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley ($62)
Classic Napa Valley, filled with juicy blackberries, rich cocoa, and cassis. Nerd tidbit: “In 1976 Chateau Montelena put California at the forefront of the wine world. That year the who's-who of the French wine and food establishment gathered for a grand tasting at the Inter-Continental Hotel in Paris. Four white Burgundies were tasted against six California Chardonnays. When the scores were tallied, the French Judges were convinced that the top-ranking white wine was one of their own. In fact, it was Chateau Montelena's 1973 Chardonnay, rated above all other wines. This seminal event has been memorialized in the book "The Judgment of Paris," by George Taber, as well as in the 2008 feature film Bottle Shock.”
2013 Heitz Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley ($62)
Density and concentration sum up the palate nicely with notes of fresh raspberry, mint, and hazelnut. Nerd tidbit: “In 1961, Joe and Alice Heitz finally purchased their first vineyard, 8 acres just south of St. Helena. Working out of the small winery attached to the parcel, they put in round-the-clock sweat equity to build their business. Heitz Wine Cellars rapidly established a reputation as home base for one of the Napa Valley's most innovative and brilliant winemakers, and the unassuming winery soon became a prestigious destination for wine connoisseurs.”
2014 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley ($56)
The finish is seamless and complementary to the palate with strawberry jam, Earl Grey tea, and bright, refreshing acidity that should pair equally well with light fare or hardy cuisine. Nerd fact: "Hall Wines is passionate about the environment. All vineyards certified organic by the CA Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF). They have 500 acres of classic Bordeaux varietals and a state-of-the-art gravity flow winemaking facility.”
