A taste of Jura
Free tasting | Saturday, November 10, 2018 | 4-6PM
We’ve been steadily growing our Jura wine section at the shop and on Saturday we’re opening three wines from Domaine de Savagny. Domaine de Savagny’s vineyards sweep through the towns of Lavigny and Passenans in the region of Jura, which is located on the eastern edge of France bordering Switzerland. Domaine de Savagny covers 45 hectares in the appellations of Côtes du Jura and Château Chalon, where Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Savagnin, Poulsard and Trousseau are planted.
Jura has a unique oxidative style for its Chardonnay, and is notable for ‘vin jaune,’ or ‘yellow wine,’ which is made from the indigenous variety, Savagnin, and made with similar methods in Sherry production. Another wine unique only to Jura, is the sweet ‘Vin de Paille,’ translating to ‘straw wine.’
Jura producers favor traditional, organic and natural viticulture and winemaking - it’s a real taste of place, and one of the most unique wine regions in the world. Come experience Jura in all its glory - with a Chardonnay, Savignin, and Vin de Paille - from Domaine de Savagny. Bethann from Cafe Europa is also pouring natural French wines from Andrea Calek and Nathalie Banes. À bientôt!
