Apple Bacon Tartine

Tartine (pronounced tar-teen) is the French name for a fancy, open-faced sandwich. Leave it to the French to make a sandwich sound elegant, right? For me, it’s how I get away with serving a sandwich to my dinner guests! And believe me, alongside a lovely salad and a glass of wine, a Tartine can be the star of any meal. Think carefully selected, seasonal ingredients piled high, tempting both your eyes and your stomach … a Tartine can make quite the impression. As with our recently-published Grilled Cheese recipe, this Apple and Bacon Tartine is perfect for any meal, or as a beautiful hors d’oeurve! Enjoy!

Apple Bacon Tartine

  • 1 Baguette, quartered and sliced horizontally, like a sandwich

  • 3 tbsp Le Bon Magot Lemon-Saffron Preserve

  • 1 apple (varietal of your choice)

  • 8 slices (plus more for nibbling) of your favorite bacon, fried crispy

  • 1/2 lb Stärnächäs cheese, sliced about 1/8” thick

  • Micro greens

  • Olive Oil

  • Lemon

  • Salt & Pepper

1. Drizzle the bread with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
2. Put the bread on a sheet pan and sit it under the broiler to lightly toast your bread - keep an eye on it and make sure it does not burn!
3. On each slice of toasted bread, spread the preserves. Then top with apple slices, two bacon slices, and cheese slices.
4. Place the Tartines on a sheet pan and sit them under the broiler - keep a close eye again! They are done when the cheese is melted and bubbly.
5. Top with the micro greens, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, a drizzle of olive oil, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
6. Et voila! Fancy Sandwich!
